Explore the 2,000 year old tradition of Sumi-e ink painting. Originally these paintings were created by aristocrats and monks throughout Asia as a form of meditation. Inspired by the brush marks made by their written language, artists use elegant strokes to create bamboo and other plants, as well as insects, fish and birds. Students will learn a variety of brush marks and rules for composition.
